the adjoining Berth D up to the top of rail deck.

Australian Marine Complex - Existing Wharf Extension - $17M expansion of existing wharf and provided with cranage capability,
electrical, hydraulic and communications.

Broome Jetty Extension - $17M the design and construct project was for the 220m extension to the Broome Port Authority’s
Jetty. Wayne also undertook the Design Manager Role on award of the project until completion of the approved for construction
design.

BHP Billiton PACE Project - $52M construction of a 350 m long piled iron ore berth, 9 berthing dolphins, 108 m approach jetty,
58m x 38m transfer platform and associated conveyors.

Esperance Berth & Shiploader - $18M design and construction of 224m berth; berthing and mooring dolphins; and 4500 tonne-
per-hour iron ore shiploader and associated conveyors.

Albany Woodchip Export Facility - $10M design and construction of a woodchip receival, reclaiming and shiploading facility,
including all civil, structural, mechanical and electrical control works.

Woodside Petroleum LPG Jetty - $50M tender involved construction with a jackup barge of a 450m long approach jetty, loading
platform, mooring and berthing dolphins including all structural / mechanical erection, electrical / instrumentation installation and
full commissioning. Provided project launch assistance for launching, specialist plant and pile drilling procurement.

Construction Manager - Marine/ Civil - John Holland
Responsibilities included:

Financial, technical and ongoing management of all civil projects undertaken by John Holland.

Maintaining contractors and subcontractors ensuring the smooth and timely completion of projects within budget

Arranging and managing resources to ensure timely execution of jobs.
•
Managing funds, controlling site expenses and maintaining records.
•
Responsible for site operations including the safety and security of staff, machines and material at sites.

•
Woodside LPG and Condensate Loadout Wharf - $38.5M design and construct of condensate loadout facility. Topside
mechanical / electrical fitout midway through the construction phase including installation of all loadout piping and mechanical
equipment, electrical and instrumentation.

Fremantle Port Authority Berth 3 - $15M dredging and construction of new 250m long piled concrete deck berth in Fremantle Port
•
Albany Port Authority Small Boats Facility - $12M construction of 2 small vessel wharves, refurbishment and lengthening the
town Jetty, barge dock, two rock armoured groynes and boat ramps.

Esperance Port Authority Berth Fendering and Harbour Deeping Project - $3M design and construction of sheet pile retention
wall driven at the berth face to allow harbour deepening without undermining existing wharf piling and replacement of the total
berth fendering system.

BHP Iron Ore – Port Hedland Tug Slipway - $5M design and construction of a slipway for BHP Iron Ores Port Hedland tug fleet
with tugs up to 1500 tonnes.

Griffin Coal Ewington II Coal Processing - $3M construction of concrete foundations for the coal treatment plant as collie
including train unloading facilities and reclaim tunnel.

BHP Iron Ore – Port Hedland DRI Plant Foundations construction of earthworks and 40,000 m3 of concrete foundations for the
BHP DRI project.
1994 – 1996
Precontracts Manager - Civil - John Holland

Responsible for the appointment of project staff to undertake successfully tendered contracts
•
Responsible for the civil estimating team which prepared tenders in excess of $100 million annually.

Projects tendered encompassed the full scope of civil engineering including road and bridge projects, earthworks including dam
construction, marine design and construct and construct only projects and concrete foundation projects.
1991 – 1994
Project Manager - John Holland
Projects Included:
•
Bunbury Port Authority Harbour Expansion - $13M extension of existing inner harbour including dredging 600m x 350m x 13m
(vol 1.98 million m²) including loose sand and gravel, silt, clay and basalt rock.
•
Mesa K Train Loadout Facility -$1.0M for Robe River Mining involved both the design coordination and construction of
approximately 190 tonnes of structural steel in Pannawonica.
•
Plant Earthworks and Contractor Services contract - $1.5M Western Mining Corporation project involved working in an existing
operating plant site to undertake earthworks to enable the plant site drain. Approximately 35,000m³ of mostly rock was removed
to falls and 17,000m³ of select basecourse fill imported with the final surface being either 2 coat seal or asphalt. Also included
installation of a plant sewer system and electrical reticulation around the plant site.
•
Fleet Pier - $0.5M pile splicing and driving of 319 piles 762mm o.d. x 14mm wall 36m long both on land and in water for the fleet
pier at HMAS Stirling for Australian Construction Services and the Department of Defence.
•
Navigation Beacon Installation - $0.75M at Port Hedland for Australian Maritime Safety Authority consisted of the driving of a
1200 diameter, 48m long pile weighing 55 tonnes.
•
South and East Wharves - $5.8M at Garden Island for the Department of Defence involved the demolition of two concrete jetties,
constructing a 400m long wharf and associated road and earthworks. The wharf construction was precast concrete crossheads
weighing 20 tonnes supported on driven piles. The deck was precast concrete planks with a reinforced insitu topping of 4000 m².
Services for the wharf included fire and freshwater sewer and compressed air. Electrical power supplies were 50Hz and 60Hz
reticulated along the wharf from 250 KVa transformers.
1988 – 1991
Management Engineer and Superintendent Shire of Carnarvon
Responsibilities Included:
•
Managed planning and cost control of all construction, maintenance and care of Council property including roads, reserves,
buildings and parks.
•
Ensure that the policies, specifications and standards of the Council are adhered to.
•
Responsibility for tenderers for the $3M Carnarvon Cultural Centre which incorporated a 500m² hall and 371 seat theatre.
•
Later appointed as the Superintendent to supervise the building contractor and to liaise with the builder and consultants on all
matters on the Council’s behalf relating to the construction of the facility.
•
Completed the project approximately one month ahead of schedule and below the extremely tight budget.
